A Taste of Athabasca

A Taste of Athabasca

What is One Book, One Community-Athabasca?

The One Book, One Community committee, in partnership with the Alice B. Donahue Library and Archives, encourages residents of Athabasca and the surrounding area to read a book that has been selected by the committee, then gather for events programmed around the themes of the book. This year's book selection is Homes: A Refugee Story by Abu Bakr Al-Rabeeah and Winnie Yeung.

One of the events the committee has planned is A Taste of Athabasca which will be held on November 4th from 11am-1pm at the Athabasca Multiplex Fieldhouse. Individuals, groups, and businesses from our community are all invited to participate in this event. Each table will prepare one food item or dish that can be portioned out to bite size. The goal is to have many different cultural foods represented at this event. All attendees will get a plate and will be invited to gather the samples from all the tables and sit down in community to enjoy all the different flavours. Event participation will be by donation and donations go towards covering the costs of One Book, One Community events this year.  We hope many people from our community will be able to join in the festivities.

Those interested in having a table are asked to fill in a registration form with what food they would like to prepare, and if they would like financial support to cover their costs. Limited funds are available, and the committee’s goal is to support as many groups as possible. We look forward to seeing what delicious food Athabasca has to offer!
